Slade, a young Texas man raised in a strict and religious home in the 1980s, steps into the world only to realize that things might not be as they were taught throughout his childhood. He journeys closer and closer to the world outside the confines of his parent’s home, where he finds himself inexplicably drawn to the grittier side of life.

Slade becomes enmeshed and enchanted in a new world of gambling and hustling where 9-ball and hold ‘em are more than sport or a game of chance. He cuts all ties with people from his past and moves seamlessly into this often brutal world.

This is Slade’s coming-of-age journey of discovery, where he learns hard life lessons: he has to lose to win.
